Description

The Huawei Smart Assistant (formerly known as EMMA-A02) is an intelligent load manager that coordinates photovoltaic production, battery storage (ESS), electric vehicle (EV) charging, and other compatible loads within a single installation in real time. Its role is to optimize energy flow between these different sources and loads to maximize solar self-consumption and reduce grid withdrawals.

The unit mounts on a DIN35 rail, measures 108 x 100 x 65 mm, and weighs 0.5 kg. It connects to the electrical panel and operates on both single-phase (1P2W, 100 to 240 V) and three-phase (3P3W or 3P4W, 346 to 415 V) networks. Its power consumption is 4 W.

The Smart Assistant incorporates a Class 1 measurement function with an accuracy of +/- 1% . With a direct connection, it measures currents up to 63 A. Above this threshold, external current transformers (CTs) take over. The voltage measurement range covers 85 to 299 Vac in single-phase (LN) and 148 to 520 Vac in three-phase (LL).

The system manager relies on a predictive model to anticipate solar production and adapt the battery and EV charging/discharging strategy accordingly. This predictive logic distinguishes the EMMA-A02 from a simple load shedding or load distributor: it makes its decisions upstream, based on forecasts, and not solely in reaction to instantaneous variations in production.

In terms of connectivity, the device features LAN and WAN ports (10/100 Mbps), an integrated WLAN module (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz) for commissioning via the Huawei app, two RS485 ports, and digital input/output ports (2 DI, 2 DO). Initial commissioning is performed via WLAN connection from a smartphone, without requiring any prior network cabling.
